How to stay safe in the UK – Anti-trafficking charities launch website to help Ukrainians | United Kingdom | New
Founded by The Freedom Funda new coalition of anti-slavery and human rights groups has launched a website for Ukrainian refugees, aimed at protecting them from trafficking and helping them adjust to their new homes.
The website, called Ukrainians Welcome, is available in Ukrainian, English and Russian.
Andrew Wallis, CEO of one of the groups being the new site, anti-slavery charity Unseen, said: “There are millions of Ukrainians on the move, many without a support network, who are vulnerable to all kinds of exploitation.
“The more information we can give them about how to stay safe in the UK and where to go for help with a range of issues, the better. This will stop the exploitation .”
One of the main areas the group is looking at is getting mobile networks to offer support.
Mr Wallis said: “We urge major UK mobile network providers to work with us to promote the website to Ukrainian refugees when they arrive in the UK.
“One easy way to do this is for the website to be part of the standard welcome text that any traveler receives when arriving in this country. Already, any phone registered by a foreigner arriving in the UK will receive a welcome text from their UK provider detailing charges. What can be so difficult to change this text for anyone arriving with a phone connected to a Ukrainian network?”
