On Republic Day, Kamal Haasan launches the website of his new fashion brand KH House of Khaddar

The first collection for autumn winter is heavy and includes trench coats, jackets, pants, skirts and dresses in olive, brown, blue and pink tones.

In the harsh Chicago winter of -3 degrees Celsius, it was a khadi jacket that kept Kamal Haasan warm. To be precise, a jacket from KH House of Khaddar, his designer brand that just launched. Now Khaddar has taken over his wardrobe.

“Khaddar needs no introduction. It is woven into the fabric of the nation. We hang on to the wire and climb,” Kamal said during the virtual press conference to launch the House of Khaddar website in India. “We are proud to launch our business on Republic Day,” he says, adding, “Let’s hope khadi does better than burgers in India.”

The brand’s first collection, titled Nunool, was presented in Chicago in November 2021. Indian ?’ It’s not a politician’s suit: it’s a historical thread that connects people like today’s freedom fighters and free Indians.The actor says he’s emotionally connected to the fabric, because his father, who was a lawyer and part of the independence movement, used to wear khaddar in court.

Amritha Ram, the designer, put it all together with the concept of layering in mind, so people can use each piece in different ways. Amritha says the next collection will be launched during Paris Fashion Week.

Kamal also takes pride in the fact that KH House of Khaddar is environmentally friendly, concerned about sustainability and the well-being of the weavers associated with the label. “The fabric is hand dyed with organic dyes. Our dyes have no chemical waste and no carbon,” he says, adding, “We took Gandhiji’s advice seriously and became the change we wanted.For more details log on to www.khhk.in
